18th IAABD Annual Conference

 Conference Theme – “Accelerating Sustainable Development in Africa: The Roles of Businesses, Entrepreneurs, the Middle Class and Global Partners”.

We are pleased to announce that Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America has been selected to host the 2017 IAABD conference. Please mark your calendar for May 17-20, 2017.  Make plans to bring the family.

The theme of the 2017 IAABD Conference highlights the need to intensify Africa’s steady resilience of the past decade by implementing more balanced and comprehensive solutions to challenges for social and economic growth. These challenges include better management of Africa’s businesses, accelerating entrepreneurship, meeting the demands of a growing middle class, and increasing foreign direct investments. All papers should be submitted electronically to the IAABD submission portal in Microsoft Word by January 30, 2017.  All abstracts and proposals for special sessions should be submitted electronically to the IAABD submission portal in Microsoft Word by March 15, 2017.  See the Call for Papers for more details (or find a downloadable copy at below) .

The annual conferences of the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD) are open to scholars, professionals, and graduate students of any nationality who are interested or actively engaged in the research and performance or administration of business and economic development issues as they relate to Africa.  These conferences aim at facilitating multidisciplinary research on Africa’s related issues, stimulating collaborations between Africa based researchers and their counterparts around the world, broadening and deepening global understanding of the various challenges facing African business and development, as well as advancing alternative solutions to Africa’s business and development challenges.

Transportation: Getting to the Hotel from the Airport

There are 4 options you can take advantage of with regards to transportation from the airport

  1. Taxi – Follow the signs at the airport to ground transportation and find available taxis nearby. Taxi fare vary depending on distance and traffic. Expect to spend about $60 or above for the ride.
  2. Uber – Follow this link to download the Uber app on your device or visit your App Store/Play store. Once downloaded, follow the steps, type in the hotel address and wait for your Uber ride.
  3. Lyft –  Follow this link to get instructions on how to download the Lyft app or visit your App Store/Play store to download directly on your device. Once downloaded, follow the steps, type in the hotel address and wait for your Lyft ride.
  4. MARTA – Take the North Springs line (Red line) to the Buckhead N7 Station.
    Exit right off the train.
    Follow the exit sign on your right to Tower Place Drive.
    Cross a walking bridge toward Tower Place Drive.
    Continue down the sidewalk until you reach the crosswalk.
    Cross the street and turn right up the sidewalk. Walk directly to the entrance of Spring Hill Suites
    Travel time is approximately 5 minutes.

Transportation: Getting to the Conference Venue 

  1. If you are coming from the Spring Hill Suites hotel;
    Head east on Buckhead Loop NE
    Turn right in 0.1 mi
    Then Slight left in 75ft
    Take the stairs
    Destination will be on the left – 3348 Peachtree Rd., Tower Place 200. Travel time is approximately 5 minutes.
    Ask Hotel officials for directions if needed. You may also use Google maps for walking Guidance.
  2. If you are not lodged in the Spring Hill Suites hotel. You may use Lyft or Uber to 3348 Peachtree Rd., Tower Place 200 from your location. Click here for more options including using the MARTA or driving to the GSU Buckhead Center.
